Cannot wait to see this movie! (trailer)

6/26/05 ~ Hoosier weekend

For the past few days, Melissa, Kennedy, and I have been in Indiana to visit Melissa's parents at their new house. Which leads to the question: What does one do in Indiana? We've visited a few antique stores. Melissa and her parents went on a tour of homes. We're having a cook-out at Melissa's aunt's house tonight. I read Jamie Rich's newest book I Was Someone Dead. I've been working on an outline and synopsis for a possible second Karma Incorporated series. All in all, it's been a lot of fun

6/23/05 ~ Comic Con Pitch 2005

The popular Comics2Film website features my pitch for Karma Incorporated as a possible movie or television show. Who would I cast for the main role of Marsha? What movie or TV show would I compare it to? (click here)

6/23/05 ~ The power of Tom Cruise

Marlena e-mailed this to me last night. Funny, and a little disturbing. (click here)

6/22/05 ~ Sitting on the backporch

6/22/05 ~ Look what I've got

The shipment of Karma Incorporated #1 San Diego exclusive arrived this week. I went by the Viper office to pick up a few copies. (Tom, I'm mailing one to you.) The book looks great. It's a cool experience seeing it in print.

We're selling this version at the Comic Con. And right now, it looks as though issue one (regular cover) will be in stores July 20th.

Other randomness:

* In a few days, Melissa, Kennedy, and I will be taking a brief trip to Indiana to see some of Melissa's family. I'm looking forward to it.

* If you haven't seen it yet, go to www.tedstories.com. Really cool web comics and artwork.

* My interview with Generation Zero (click here)

* Interview with Hope Larson on Fanboy Radio, episode #239 (June Indie Show)

6/20/005 ~ Roadside

A huge thank you goes to Justin Stewart for designing the new graphics for my website. Can't wait to see you and your wife in July, fire up the grill, and thank you personally... with the gift of hamburgers.

6/16/05 ~ Online art gallery

Check out MoCCA's NOW THEN exhibit.

What did professional comic artists draw like when they were 12 years old, you ask? The Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art is pleased to answer the question with NOW THEN, our second online exhibit.
MoCCA is a great organization, dedicated to the collection, preservation, study, education, and display of comic and cartoon art. Heck, when you have Moby on the board of trustees, and Stan Lee and Art Spiegelmann on the board of advisors, you've got something unique. (click here to become a member)

6/15/05 ~ San Diego update

Otis Frampton posted some details about our booth on his blog. Viper Comics will be located at #1949. From the looks of it, a pretty good location-- corner booth next to the small press pavilion (always my favorite place) and near the stairway entrance.

Speaking of Otis, his book Oddly Normal #3 (review by comixtreme) will be in stores today, as well as Nicce Balce's Random Encounter #3 (review by comixtreme).

6/14/05 ~ Hello Marsha

A pretty, pretty Karma Incorporated pin-up from Nelz

Also posted on the Deviant Art site.

6/13/05 ~ Again and again and again

Yet another redesign for Antihero Comics dot com. Everytime I do this, I learn a little bit more about html that I didn't know before. Obviously, I'm not completely finished with this newest site, but it's 4 AM and I'd like to go to bed. Tomorrow, I'm going to tinker a little more.

Let me know what you think. Love it? Hate it? Find anything I need to fix or could improve upon, just post your praise or gripes in the comments.

The goal is to have a nice website ready for when I go to San Diego. Until then, please forgive me and my fickle ways.

6/9/05 ~ It hasn't been five years yet.

Without going into too many details, today was very frustrating. Goals that I had set for myself many months ago, just fell flat. (I bet you're curious, huh?) Needless to say, I was fighting every impulse to be an unbearable grump. Melissa was encouraging. And as she is prone to do, said what I really needed to hear.

Oddly enough, it was also good to hear from Drew Barrymore.

Huh? Okay, I'll explain. I've become addicted to that show Inside the Actors Studio, hosted by the quirky James Lipton. It's so relaxing for me, sorta like when my dad watches golf on TV. Anyways, I was watching the one with Drew Barrymore and she cheered me up. Once again reminding me, not all successful creative types are obsessively cool... some are big dorks who smile through all their idiosyncrasies, genuinely kind individuals.

If you're familiar with the show, James Lipton always asks the same ten questions at the end of each interview, before opening it to the students. I wrote down the questions, and I thought it'd be fun to periodically interview my own friends. Starting with my wife!

Melissa Cassidy Hopkins... in the studio...

What is your favorite word? Crap.
What is your least favorite word? Chalk.
What turns you on? A really good song.
What turns you off? Gum chewing.
What sound or noise do you love? Kennedy giggling.
What sound or noise do you hate? Scraping.
What is your favorite curse word? Shitass.
What profession, other than your own, would you like to attempt? Hair stylist
What profession would you absolutely not want to do? Writing.
If heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the pearly gates? That I made at least one person happy.

And thank you Melissa! Be ready. You might be next!

6/9/05 ~ Herald preview

Check out the first page of Aaron Thomas Nelson's comic book Herald of Olympus (click here). Great stuff.

6/8/05 ~ Antihero Super Friends Unite!

Len Kody's comic book Cisco Kid: Gunfire & Brimstone #1 will be in stores today. Make sure to pick up a copy. For more information on the series, you can read his Broken Frontier interview and his article with Pop Image.

6/6/05 ~ Everything's Gone Green

Douglas Coupland has written a film, and it starts shooting this month! For more info: http://www.twitchfilm.net/archives/002215.html

Thanks Clay for letting me know.

6/5/05 ~ Site has moved.

I thought I'd better get this domain before some goofball saw my comic book and decided to buy the dot com and make it a porn site. (I don't know. It could happen!) Anyways, it needed to be done. July isn't too far away. If you can't tell by my recent posts, I'm in the middle of promotion madness.

I've added some new stuff to the art section, including the design for a possible t-shirt.

6/4/05 ~ My Summer Reading List

Libraries often do summer reading clubs to encourage kids to pick up a book instead of a video game while enjoying their break. A noble effort, however much like fighting the tide. Even still, both Melissa and I were part of such clubs in our younger days.

In keeping with that bold tradition, here's my recommended book list for the summer--

* Eisner/Miller (Dark Horse)
* F-Stop (Oni Press)
* Ojo (Oni Press)
* Scott Pilgrim versus The World (Oni Press)
* I Was Someone Dead (Oni Press)
* Flight, Volume 2 (Image)
* The Originals (DC/Vertigo)
* McSweeney's Quarterly Concern Issue 13 (McSweeney's)
* A Gentleman's Game (Bantam)
* La Perdida (Fantagraphics)

Some of these I've read recently, and some I plan to read in the near future. If anyone reads all these books and gets a parent or guardian to verify it, I'll mail you a special certificate.

6/2/05 ~ Thanks Tom!

A belated birthday present from the uncanny Tom Kurzanski...
It's me, as a super hero action figure! Evil-doers beware.

6/1/05 ~ Lots to report

Three years ago today, Melissa and I got married. It's our anniversary. We're going to the Modern in Fort Worth to see the Dan Flavin exhibit, and then we're having dinner at Lucille's. That resturant has become somewhat of a tradition. We first ate there when we came back from our honeymoon, and then again on our two year anniversary.

My article with PopImage is now online--
Propinion: Sympathy for the Mischief-Makers
David Hopkins, author of the forthcoming Karma Incorporated series from Viper Comics, takes time to look at the history of a particular kind of anti-hero, the trickster. Also included, sample pages from Karma Inc. (And as always, you can discuss it here)

Interview with Comic Avalanche--
10 Questions (forum)

Karma Incorporated also has an ad on Buzzscope dot com.
